This blog is created by students from Clemson University's spring 2009 course Women's Studies 459 - "Building Bodies: Women's Bodies in Theory and Practice." This class explores the construction of bodies from various methodological perspectives, focusing on five specific areas: theories of bodies; bodies and genders and sexes; “misbehaving” bodies; politics of bodies; and constructing bodies. We welcome comments and contributions to our posts and discussions.

Miss North Dakota 1997

Was recently arrested in Iran for "spying" for American interest. Her charges were vague, however, according to her father, and he had never seen what the actual charges were. She was writing a book about the culture in Iran.

  1. That is really scary and intense. That really reminds me of Persepolis and the way women are often victims of accusations of things because of things we "do" or say.
It also reminds me of an experience I had with a woman who spoke about the government in her country. After the information was publicly published she requested that it be removed immediately for her family's sake.
It is sad that even in today's time, women's bodies are basically being used as currency and as a way to make deals, while male bodies seem to lose value. I say this thinking about the captain who recently escaped those pirates a few weeks ago. It was not a nation-nation issue but rather a few men-The US issue.
